Gender role conflicts : depression, self esteem and suicide in men

(Highest Honors)

- A study based on a critical literature review where data was gathered through online research using research equations that I developed;

- Discussed the differences between male and female symptomatology for a more accurate diagnosis;

- Analyzed the gap in data as to depression in males by exploring the reasons behind the higher suicide rates in men compared to women;

- Selected 'gender role conflicts' as the most significant variable influencing what other authors described as a 'male crisis'.

The Interpretation of Dreams

Analysing Sigmund Freud's book Interpretation of Dreams (1900), I have found that:

- To fight intrapsychic conflicts, it is best to make subconscious ideas responsible for the suffering available to the consciousness;

- Dreams are representations of rejected desires in the subconscious caused by one's internal censorship or the supergo;

- The rejected desires manifest with more liberty in dreams;

- The manifest content present in dreams results from intrapsychic work meant to mask the hidden meaning behind the content, like for instance Oedipal desire.
