Work History

Head of cathodic protection department

Arab Petroleum pipelines Company (SUMED)
07.2013 - Current
  • Responsibilities
  • Supervise all cathodic protection department maintenance activities and ensure that they comply with international standards.
  • Conducted thorough inspections and assessments of existing cathodic protection systems, identifying areas for improvement and system upgrades as follows:

A.Developed specifications for cathodic protection materials and equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability. For example we replaced High silicon chromium cast iron anodes that were exhausted in a very short period of time with mixed metal oxide anodes. These anodes have been installed and proved to be a better replacement for High Silicon cast iron anodes and are currently adopted in our new ground beds.

B. Installing cathodic protection coupons to facilitate measuring instant off C.P readings for piping network which is not feasible inside sidi-kerir terminal network.

C. Proposing to install Electrical resistance (ER) probes to monitor internal corrosion inside stagnant pipes.

D. Using epoxy liquid coat instead of cold applied PE tapes that were used before , to minimize the likelihood of C.P shielding occurrence which was observed to be a problem under disbonded cold applied tapes.

E. Supervision of Above ground storage tank coating activities during the major overhaul. This includes performing all necessary tests and reporting to ensure that the coating system will operate satisfactory during its intended service lifetime.

F. Installation of several deep ground beds with a depth of approximately 100 meters to ensure that the ground beds are located inside SUMED pipelines right of way instead of placing them in neighboring lands. The installation was done as per AMPP SP0572-2024 standard.

G. Sealing tank chime areas to minimize corrosion that was realized due to water ingress in this area according to API 651 recommendations.

H. Inspection of meter prover pipeline using Pulsed Eddy Current technique (PET) to assess the pipeline condition and ensure that no corrosion under thermal insulation occurred for the pipeline.

  • Supervised an inline inspection survey for SUMED pipelines by ROSEN company in the year 2109. The survey was done by ROSEN MFL inspection tool.
  • Supervised a CIPS and DCVG survey performed by Corrocont Company to SUMED main pipelines in the year 2024, The survey included CIPS and DCVG survey as well as AC and DC interference studies and soil resistivity and pH surveys.
  • Repair of SUMED pipelines according to a rehabilitation plan that merges between data from CIPS and DCVG surveys and inline inspection data performed by ROSEN company in the year 2019.
  • Developed and executed strategic plans for cathodic protection maintenance, optimizing resource allocation and operational efficiency.
  • Managed departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
  • Conducted root cause analysis on corrosion incidents, implementing corrective actions to mitigate future risks.

Main Pipelines cathodic protection Engineer

Arab Petroleum Pipelines Company (SUMED)
11.2004 - 07.2013
  • Responsibilities
  • Responsible for monitoring ,troubleshooting Cathodic protection system for pipelines and storage tanks at sidi-Kerir Terminal
  • Perform and supervise ECDA for pipelines as CIPS and DCVG
  • Supervise pipeline inspection project using intelligent PIGs
  • Using GIS software to correlate between PIG and ECDA finding
  • Perform pipeline rehabilitation strategy based on PIG and ECDA findings
  • Supervise CIPS and DCVG survey performed for SUMED pipelines. The survey was done by Corrocont company in 2005.
  • Supervise interference study between SUMED pipelines and neighboring pipelines. The study was performed by Corrocontcompany in 2005.
  • Supervise pipeline inspection for SUMED’s main pipelines (Two 42” pipelines –length 180 Km each) using MFL inspection pig in 2005 and 2011. Both inspections were done by ROSEN Company.
  • Designing and building a new Electrolytic Anti-fouling system using copper and aluminum anodes. The anti-fouling system is used to control fouling accumulation for SUMED’s 48” water intake pipeline. Design includes calculating the dosing concentrations for copper and aluminum ions as well as building a control system to accommodate for different flow rates from firefighting pumps.
