1. Clinical Rounds:

• Actively participating in clinical rounds at the ward and Intensive Care Unit (ITU).
• Collaboration with consultants to discuss cases.
• Contributing to the formulation and execution of management plans and ensuring effective care in accordance with consultant instructions.

2. Pre-operative and Post-operative Care:

• Engaging in the comprehensive assessment of patients before surgery and their subsequent care during post-operative stages.

3. Theatre Assistance:

• Providing effective assistance in various cardiac surgeries (e.g. Coronary CABG, Aortic and Mitral Valve Replacement, Aortic surgeries,Emergent Cardiac surgeries).
• Ensuring seamless support and collaboration within the surgical team.

4. On-Call Rota:

• Participating in a 1 in 7 rotation schedule.
• Delivering timely and responsive medical care.

5. Multidisciplinary Meetings:

• Actively participating in high-risk Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, including Aortic MDT, Mitral MDT, and Mortality meetings.

6. Medical Supervision and Teaching:

• Consistently providing medical supervision and contributing to the educational development of junior doctors fostering a learning environment within the department.

1. ER duties

• Evaluate patients with chest trauma or polytrauma in the Emergency Room.
• Stabilize critically-ill patients and order/interpret relevant investigations.
• Report findings to seniors and ensure safe transfer of admitted patients to the ward or OR.

2. Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery

• Conduct pre-operative assessments and post-operative care for cardiac and thoracic surgery patients.
• Assist seniors in the operating room during cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including CABG, Valve replacement, VATS, lobectomy, tumor resections, decortication, and other procedures.

3. Participation in Clinical Rounds

• Attend clinical rounds at the ward and ITU with consultants and registrars.
• Discuss cases, contribute to the management plan, and ensure effective care as directed by consultants.

4. Collaborating in Multidisciplinary Team

• Work collaboratively with other departments as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Provide care for complicated cases, ensuring comprehensive patient management.

5. Outpatient Clinic

• Assist consultants in outpatient clinics by taking medical histories and conducting clinical examinations.
• Order relevant investigations and contribute to the development of management plans.

This was my first job as a full-time doctor at the ministry of health in Egypt during which I was working as a primary health care officer. My duties included taking the medical history, performing physical examination on patients, ordering basic investigations and referring the patient to specialist doctors when needed. I was also responsible for updating the medical records of the patients who are registered at my unit.

• Completed a one-year internship at Menoufia University Hospitals.
• Rotated through various departments, including Emergency, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, and General Surgery.
