Key liaison between the government of Lebanon and the government of Egypt, the government of Lebanon, and the League of Arab States, and the private sectors in both countries, primarily focusing on economic and commercial matters.
This role involves promoting trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as negotiating the economic interests of the government of Lebanon within GAFTA.
It also entails cooperating with Lebanese Ministries of Economy, Agriculture, Industry, Public Health, Tourism, Chambers of Commerce, Industrialist associations, traders, and all their Egyptian counterparts to perform the following.
Bilateral level:
1 - Trade Promotion
- Market Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research to identify specific products and services that have high export potential from Lebanon to Egypt. Analyze market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive landscapes.
- Business Networks: Build professional networks with businessmen, chambers of commerce and industry, associations of traders, the Lebanese diaspora, media personnel, and all stakeholders of the economic, trade, financial, and healthcare sectors, and cooperate to promote Lebanese industries and pilots in these sectors.
- Business Matchmaking: Facilitate meetings between Lebanese businesses and potential partners or clients in Egypt. Organize trade missions, delegations, networking events, expositions, and conferences, and follow up on and manage all permanent Lebanese expositions.
- Export Assistance: Provide consultation, guidance, and support to Lebanese businesses on export procedures, documentation, and compliance with local regulations. Assist with channeling them to their counterparts, obtaining necessary permits, licenses, and certifications.
- Trade Negotiations: Participate in negotiations to address trade barriers, negotiate preferential trade agreements, and promote fair trade practices.
2 - Investment Promotion
- Investment Climate Assessment: Evaluate Egypt's investment climate, including factors such as political stability, economic outlook, infrastructure, and regulatory environment.
- Investor Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with potential investors, providing them with information on investment opportunities, incentives, and support services.
- Foreign Direct Investment: Aim potential foreign direct investments from Egypt into Lebanon as aligned with Lebanese national investment strategy and opportunities.
- Public Sector Bids: Encourage and direct Egyptian investors to participate in public bids for national projects, especially in electricity and gas exploration sectors.
- Aftercare Services: Assist foreign investors in setting up operations, accessing financing, and resolving any challenges they may encounter.
- Grants and Loans: Attempting to attract external grants and loans.
3 - Economic Analysis
- Economic Indicators: Monitor key economic indicators such as GDP growth, inflation, unemployment rates, interest rates, and exchange rates.
- Economic Forecasting: Prepare economic forecasts and projections for Egypt, considering factors such as government policies, global economic trends, and industry-specific developments.
- Policy Analysis: Analyze the impact of government policies on the economy, including fiscal and monetary policies, trade regulations, and investment incentives.
4. Dispute Resolution.
- Mediation and Arbitration: Facilitate mediation or arbitration proceedings to resolve trade disputes between businesses from the two countries.
- Advocacy: Represent the interests of Lebanese businesses in trade disputes and advocate for fair treatment and resolution of issues.
5 - Tourism promotion
- Promote campaigns that market Lebanon as a tourist destination for residents of Egypt, of all nationalities.
- Coordinate with tourism boards, airlines, and travel agencies to promote tourism packages and special offers.
Multilateral Level
International Economic Organizations: League of Arab States
- Lebanese Mission to LAS: Represent Lebanon's mission to the League of Arab States in Cairo in the economic sector.
- Negotiations: Participate in negotiations in all committees of the Economic and Social Council of the GAFTA, and advocate for Lebanese economic interests.
- Rule-Based Trade: Advocate for a rules-based international trading system and promote fair competition among countries.
- Dispute Settlement: Support the GAFTA's dispute settlement mechanism and represent Lebanon in trade disputes.
- FTA analysis: Analyze the potential benefits and challenges of the regional trade agreement, GAFTA, and assess its impact on the Lebanese economy.
Economic Diplomacy.
- Foreign Economic Policy: Contribute to the formulation and implementation of the Lebanese foreign economic policy.
- Consultation to Lebanese head of Mission: · Provide technical consultation to the Lebanese Ambassador in Egypt and answer all his requirements in the relative economic, financial and commercial aspects.
- International Cooperation: Foster economic cooperation with other countries through bilateral and multilateral agreements.
- Diplomatic Representation: Represent the Lebanese economic interests in international forums and build relationships with economic officials from other countries and international entities and organizations.
